FAQ
Why is it called The Urban Retreat?
The name is intentional - when you engage one of the online experiences, cohort experiences or spiritual companioning you are withdrawing from your urban lifestyle in order to contemplatively care for your soul. In that way, it feels like a mini-retreat from your everyday life.
Where are you located?
The Urban Retreat has both a residential space as well as an online 'location.' Spiritual Companioning occurs in Arden Hills, MN at the residential space. The weekend retreats for the cohort experience will also occur at the retreat house.
Please do not 'stop by' The Urban Retreat unless you have a scheduled appointment. This is to reduce the amount of traffic coming and going in the residential neighborhood. Please email if you have a question.
Can our group rent your space?
Unfortunately, no. Lots of reasons here but short answer is no.
What do you mean by soul care and wellbeing?
Everyday we are being shaped by something and the terrain of the soul develops over time. This shaping continues throughout adult life. Unfortunately, most people don't purposefully tend to their soul's development. Most people simply live life and allow their soul to be shaped by whatever comes their way. This shaping may or may not produce holistic wellbeing in a person. I believe people can become generous, compassionate, kind, peace-filled, peace-pursuing folks. But this process takes time and intentionality. This process is best done with others. I believe soul wellbeing is a state of flourishing in multiple dimensions of life that was part of humanity's original design.
Are you Christian?
Ha! Love this question. Answer: yes. But as you read through the site and the offerings, you will come to realize this is a very open space. For those who need to know: I have a trinitarian view of God. A missional view of God's people & their purpose. I actually believe the world could be different. And I believe God has invited us into that process of transformation. However, that process begins in the individual journeying with others in a process of change. When entire groups of people are transformed and are telling an alternative story with their lives, I believe the world begins to see the life God had intended for humanity.
